Biography

Jill Poulston is the Head of Department (Hospitality) and Senior Lecturer in the School of Hospitality and Tourism at AUT. Her doctoral study was of ethical issues and workplace issues in hospitality, an interest stimulated after some 15 years management experience in the New Zealand hospitality industry.

Jill’s areas of expertise and interest include hospitality human resources, training, workplace problems, working conditions, staff turnover, ethical issues, alcohol service and consumption, sexual harassment, theft, and deviant behaviour generally. She has presented her work at conferences in New Zealand, Australia, Greece, England and Scotland, has published several research articles on her area of interest, and is developing research in the area of lifestyle labour and the sacrificial nature of labour.

Jill and Prof Nigel Hemmington head the Hospitality Research Programme Area.
